Save Money On Weddings

I don’t know about you all, but spending $40,000 on a one day wedding event seems pretty darn crazy. I understand some parents foot the bill, but wow this still seems like a lot of money. I have known many people that have put amounts like this on a credit card, and were divorced 3 years later and still paying off the debt. That just burns! Here are some ideas to save money:

  1. Flowers. One major expense people regretted spending a fortune on were the flower arrangements.
  2. Number of Guests. Clearly the size of the wedding adds tons of money to the costs. Do you really need 200 people there? Could it be just as special with 50-100?
  3. Frugal weddings. I have seen some beautiful wedding ceremony’s performed at a public beach, then off to a nice restaurant later. Go to the County building for a simple ceremony then off to a beautiful location for pictures and a great meal.
  4. The Dress. The dress is another area that many brides regret spending a fortune. There are probably so many options for a dress that are not $5,000 or more!

In America today, most people would struggle to come up with $400 in an emergency. How is it then that the average wedding costs $36,000? Those two figures are not making sense to me.

I will add one more thing. My grandparents have been married for over 60 years. They had a simple wedding and wore their Sunday best. A wedding is a joyous occasion, but don’t lose sight that what happens afterwards is more important.
